Natural Newborn & Baby Photography

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a few minutes to write a little blog about why I converted to the more 'natural' approach with my newborn & baby photo sessions.

Although I do love that Anne Geddes style with the fun and quirky props, I started to realise that it wasn't for me any more.

I used to love using anything over the top and colourful during my photo shoots but as I started to reach the age where my husband & I were going to be planning for our own family, I started to think about what images id like displayed in my own home.

My home is quite minimal with neutral colours like creams, greys and beiges. This is when I realised that I much preferred that simple and timeless look, especially when it comes to images of my own baby.

Having a nice clean image with no distracting colours or textures can convert beautifully into black & white, and so shooting with this in mind means that you will always have a choice for when you decide to print & frame your images.

I do love a black & white image on the wall!!

Not only this, but with photography as we all know, there seems to be fads that come and go over the years.

I want to be able to look back in many years to come and still be in love with the images of my newborn baby.

There is nothing 'fashionable' about a simple and natural image.. this will never go out of style.

Newborn babies are so new and precious, and I feel that it is very important to capture this whilst they are still so tiny.. as unfortunately this won't last forever. This is why I take some time to get some beautiful close up shots of baby's flakey skin on their toes, the frown line in-between their eyes, that chubby bit above their knees... or any other part of them that their parents love.

All babies are unique in their own ways and they all have their funny expressions, their own little movements and habits.

During my newborn sessions I don’t plan any fussy poses. I much prefer to capture their natural beauty.. how they truly are. Sessions are mainly baby led and this means that I just let them move in their own ways and capture some shots along the way.

I now also implement this same style for all of the photo sessions that I offer. The reason for this is so when my customers return for their next milestone shoot the images in their home are consistent and all compliment each other in their own way.

When choosing your newborn photographer and their style it is important to think about what images you would love to walk past every day, what colours will match your home.. and what images you will still be proud to display in years to come.

If you would like any information or to book a photo session then feel free to pop me a message.

Id love to hear from you.
