Calm, relaxed and simple...
These are the things that I try to project during my newborn sessions, resulting in images that show these exact emotions.
I always invested in the newest posing training out there and brought super cute accessories, outfits and props.
They were beautiful and super fun to use,
but I always felt they stole the focus from the baby.
So last year I sorted through everything in the studio, sold them all and began my more natural approach to newborn photography.
Minimal posing, neutral colours, and more time to focus on baby.
Some people think that their baby MUST sleep for the whole entire session to get those perfect shots.
They think that all newborn babies do is sleep all day.. this is completely untrue, especially when they are being moved around a lot.
Most new babies just want to feed, wee, poop.. and have Mummy and Daddy cuddles.
I always advise parents to try to keep baby awake if they can before the session, as this would mean that they are more sleepy once they arrive to the studio.. however the beauty of this style of photography is that there is no right or wrong way.
Some of the most precious shots are the ones where they are awake, looking around the room with contentment, or being comforted by Mummy.
It is simply just following what baby wants..
When those super fussy props get dated,
When you go off those bright colours,
When its no longer cute to make a newborn sit like a frog,
Or have your baby wear a big bright pink flower garland
Will you still have pride to display those photographs on your wall?
Or will have a “what was I thinking?'' moment and cringe
Your child is now all grown up, will they hide those embarrassing photos or pull them out with pride.
Will they see a hideous outfit or will they see the image as a beautiful moment of their life?
Trends and fads will come and go..
Keep your images natural and simple..
Showing what really matters.. Your baby!
